The other day, I was hanging out in my back yard; sipping a cold beer and watching the clouds roll by. It was a particularly nice day, perfect for just sitting around and relaxing. But that would be boring–I rather do something productive or completely unproductive. I noticed a lot of people hanging out in their back yards, chilling out, talking on the phone or just chatting with others. I was by myself, which gave me the perfect opportunity to fidget around with one of my gadgets. A few days before, I got the Orbitor Electronic Listening Device from Gadget Universe in the mail, but I hadn’t gotten the chance to play with it yet. This was the perfect opportunity. Think about it… all alone, lots of neighbors sitting, chatting in their back yards… an Orbitor Electronic Listening Device in the palm of my hands: I can have some real fun with this one. Well, I unpacked the Orbitor Electronic Listening Device, loaded the batteries and I was off (yes, it was that simple). I plopped on the headphones and adjusted the volume and I was ready to go.
The first thing I noticed was that it was really good at directionally amplifying sound. I pointed it discreetly toward “the back of my house” and guess what… I was able to hear my neighbor’s conversation quite clearly. Because the Orbitor Electronic Listening Device has a built in digital recorder, I was even able to capture what I heard for later. It was quite exciting–Dean, the suburban spy! Very exciting, right? Not really, suburban conversation is mind numbingly boring. I was hoping for some good dirt, but all I heard was discussion about furniture. Needless to day, I was quickly bored, so I turned my attention to experimenting. Can the Orbitor Electronic Listening Device enable me to listen to things behind glass? I went inside my house and turned on iTunes to Queens of the Stone Age and adjusted the volume so the music wasn’t audible outside. I went outside to see if I could then hear QOTSA with the Orbitor Electronic Listening Device. It worked; I was able to hear the music through my windows. I then took it on a walk to the nearby pond and was able to listen to all kinds of birds and animals. One drawback to suburban nature hikes with the Orbitor Electronic Listening Device on Saturdays—lawn mowers. The Orbitor Electronic Listening Device does pick up ambient sounds and if they are loud… hold on to your ear drums. All in all, the Orbitor Electronic Listening Device is freaking cool. The possible uses are endless and it is really fun to have around.
